God Of War Trilogy

Strange how your taste in entertainment can change over time. Upon playing the original God of War on release I was distinctly unimpressed. Fast forward till about two months ago and after playing a brief demo of the third game I decided to re-buy the two original games as part of the God of War collection which were remastered for the PS3. Playing the second game before the first I was drawn into the world almost instantly. So many improvements to the core mechanics of the game resulted in a much improved gameplay experience and coupled with the simple yet engrossing story and I knew I was playing something special.

The premise and setting for the game is really compelling and the production values even for the older games is impressive. Fans of Devil May Cry and Ninja Gaiden will be familiar with the general principle of the game (basically kill everything that moves) but God of War is in my opinion a far more complete package in the sense that both the core gameplay and the story is fantastic, stark contrast to the games Japanese equivalents which have great core gameplay which is spoiled somewhat by ridiculous story telling.

The third game in the series quickly became my most anticipated title and it hasn't disappointed in the slightest. I even went back to the original game to ensure the wait until release was bearable, and after slogging through the opening sections grew to love it almost as much as the second. The final game in the trilogy really is something else though. Epic is one word used most often to describe it and I can think of no better description. Its everything I could want from an action game and the first since Resident Evil 4 which I was compelled to replay immediately upon completion.
