The Pacific

Three episodes into HBO's follow up to "Band of Brothers" reveals "The Pacific" to be just as good as its predecessor. Focusing on just three characters, unlike BOB, even at this stage you become attached to them as they struggle against the many dangers they face. The setting of the pacific with its lush jungles etc is a welcome change to the European setting and the cinematography is breathtaking. With the highest budget for a miniseries/ T.V show coming it at a hefty $ 200 million the sense of scale and ferocity of the action is as good as anything from a feature film. While the first two episodes were fairly action packed the third dealt with the soldiers experience recovering in Australia as they prepared to once again face the Japanese. Until this point I would have said that "Band of Brothers" was the better of the two but the third episode gives a welcome change of pace and allows you to really get to know the characters and as a result of this the emotional impact and the gritty realism of the combat becomes all the more apparent.
I've been downloading the show but it starts on Sky movies on Easter Monday and if you're lucky enough to have Sky HD then you're in for a real treat.
