Lots of cool stuff over the last week. I'll start first with the fact that I finished "God of War 3" on Titan which was one of the most satisfying gaming experiences ever, and yet I still feel compelled to play it more, a third playthrough on the highest difficulty is in order over the coming week I reckon even if it does mean the end of my Dualshock. Seriously this game is incredible.
Watched some good films over the last week as well. Firstly "Shutter Island" staring Leonardo Di Caprio. Excellent thriller set in the late 1950's about a US marshal sent to a mental institute on an island off the American coast to track down an escaped convict. There's far more to it than that but it's a bloody great movie. Go see it before some fucker ruins the ending. As always Di Caprio's performance was top notch and the supporting cast was likewise excellent. Great story well told and highly recommended.
Another film I watched last night was "The Boy in the striped Pyjamas". Really excellent premise let down by some annoying flaws. Firstly the cast while putting in solid performances are very British, strange watching a movie about the holocaust where all the Nazi officers speak the king's English. The emotional impact of the movie was also, I felt, softened by the fact it was rated 12G. A film dealing with such a horrid subject matter such as this fails to convey the atmosphere of a concentration camp as well as something such a " Schindler's List". Overall however, it was a great movie with excellent performances from its young cast. Very sad and thought provoking ending. Worth a watch.
Back to games and today I picked up "Yakuza 3" to tide me over until the madness that is May's release schedule. very similar to Shenmue, perhaps not surprising seeing as it's also a Sega title. Ported on the cheap it only has English text while the voice work remains Japanese, although if you played the European Xbox version of Shenmue 2 this will come as something of a relief. It's an old game having been out in Japan for over a year and while many of the game play mechanics seem dated overall the game is highly enjoyable. So far I'm only onto the second chapter but I can tell I'm going to enjoy this game. Set in Japan you play a former Yakuza called Kazuma on a quest to secure the future of his former clan....or something along those lines anyway, never did play the originals although there is a recap in the menu options of the main game I should make use of. So basically its Shenmue with Yakuza and its rather good.
Picked up some new books on Tuesday. "The Girl with the Dragon tattoo", "Not untrue and not unkind" and "A Little History of the World". Haven't had a chance to read any of them as of yet, still got Max Hastings to get through as well as college books and with exams on the horizon *shit * it may be a few weeks before I get a chance.
Currently listening to Dr.Lektroluv - live at Rock Werchter and its incredible.
