New Music

I got two fantastic new albums recently. Firstly the second album from Canadian techno duo “Crystal Castles” which randomly is, like their first album, self titled. It wasn’t meant to be out till June but was leaked online a few days ago. Some really great track’s with a heavier sound than their first effort which gives the whole album a great energetic vibe that will have you moving along to the beats. Overall it’s a great listen and fans of the first album should check it out, techno fans in general should give both a listen.

Track Listing
1. "Fainting Spells" 2:44
2. "Celestica" 3:48
3. "Doe Deer" 1:38
4. "Baptism" 4:13
5. "Year of Silence" 4:54
6. "Empathy" 4:11
7. "Suffocation" 4:02
8. "Violent Dreams" 4:35
9. "Vietnam" 5:08
10. "Birds" 2:31
11. "Pap Smear" 3:43
12. "Not in Love" 3:33
13. "Intimate" 4:45
14. "I Am Made of Chalk"

Personal favourite tracks include “Doe Deer” which easily the heaviest sound on the album and “suffocation” which is softer more thought provoking track, overall however, there’s not a bad song and I’d happily listen to the whole album without skipping any of the tracks.

The second album is “Lungs” by “Florence and the machine”. I downloaded it on a whim after dancing to some of the songs at a friend’s recent 21st party. Aside from their excellent track mix with “Dizzee Rascal” I hadn’t really been aware of their music aside from one track “Cosmic Love” which is used in an o2 advert here and which I’d been trying to identify for ages. Anyway the album is astonishing and I really can’t recommend it enough. Some really mesmerizing songs and the vocals are awe inspiring in many tracks. It’s just a great relaxing, uplifting album and something refreshing coming out of the mainstream music scene.

Track Listing
1. “Dog Days are Over” 4:12
2. “Rabbit Heart” (Raise it Up) 3:52
3. "I'm Not Calling You a Liar" 3:05
4. "Howl" (Welch, Epworth) 3:34
5. "Kiss with a Fist" 2:04
6. "Girl with One Eye") 3:38
7. “Drumming Song" 3:43
8. "Between Two Lungs" 4:09
9. "Cosmic Love" (Welch, Summers) 4:15
10. "My Boy Builds Coffins" 2:56
11. "Hurricane Drunk") 3:13
12. "Blinding") 4:40
13. “You’ve got the Love” 2:48

All the tracks are excellent but my three favourites would have to be “Cosmic Love”, “My Boy Builds Coffins” and “Blind”.
